In a powerful boost to Tamil Nadu’s industrial ambitions, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has signed a landmark MoU with the state government to invest a massive ₹18,600 crore across three transformative projects just days after the new Vijay-led government took charge.

The agreement was inked at the Secretariat on Thursday, June 4, in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and L&T Chairman & Managing Director S.N. Subrahmanyan. This marks the first major industrial MoU of the new regime, signaling strong continuity and confidence in Tamil Nadu’s growth story.

The Three Game-Changing Projects:₹15,000 crore Data Centre Expansion in Kanchipuram:

A giant leap for digital and AI infrastructure, expected to generate around 500 direct jobs.

₹2,500 crore Electronics & Electrical Systems Manufacturing Unit in Coimbatore: Strengthening the state’s electronics ecosystem and creating about 2,000 jobs.

₹1,100 crore Expansion of Kattupalli Shipyard: Modernising coastal infrastructure for shipbuilding and offshore wind energy, set to create a massive 5,700 jobs.

Chief Minister Vijay assured full government support for L&T’s future expansions, while the company’s leadership expressed strong faith in Tamil Nadu’s potential. These investments are not just numbers, but directly align with the CM’s bold vision of taking Tamil Nadu’s economy to $1.5 trillion by 2036.

From powering AI and digital growth to building world-class port-adjacent infrastructure, the projects promise both high-skill jobs and widespread indirect employment for the state’s youth.

A clear message: Tamil Nadu is open for business and big global players are responding.

Is this the beginning of a major industrial resurgence under the new government?
