Tehran, June 8, 2026: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the country’s central military command, Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, announced on Monday that they have suspended military operations against Israel following a brief but intense exchange of strikes between the two regional rivals.

Iran said it had delivered what it described as a “painful response” to recent Israeli actions, particularly military operations in southern Lebanon and Beirut. Iranian officials claimed that overnight ballistic missile and drone strikes targeting Israeli positions, including areas around Haifa, achieved their objectives.

However, Tehran stressed that the suspension should not be viewed as a sign of retreat. In a strongly worded warning, Iranian military leaders stated that any further Israeli “aggressions,” especially in southern Lebanon, would trigger a “much stronger and more crushing” response.

The announcement came shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly urged both sides to stop exchanging fire and avoid a wider regional conflict.

Israel has not formally responded to Iran’s declaration and continues its military operations in Lebanon. Israeli officials have downplayed the effectiveness of the Iranian attacks, describing them as largely unsuccessful.

Financial markets reacted positively to the news, with oil prices retreating from recent highs and stock futures rising amid hopes that the latest confrontation may not escalate into a broader war.

Despite the pause, analysts caution that tensions remain extremely fragile. Both Iran and Israel are claiming victory, and the situation could rapidly deteriorate again depending on developments in Lebanon and elsewhere in the region.

For now, the announcement appears to represent a temporary halt in hostilities rather than a lasting resolution to one of the Middle East’s most volatile confrontations.
